BILL PRITCHARD - Three Months, Three Weeks & Two Days

LP Midnight Music 1989
CD Play It Again, Sam Records 1989

"From the childhood nostalgia of Tommy & Co. to the bittersweet romanticism of Je N'Aime Que Toi; from the kitchen sink drama of Sometimes to the political arena with Kenneth Baker; and from the lost love of Cosy Evenings to the lost hope of Better To Be Bitter, Bill's songs manage to combine the deeply lyrical with the dead commercial while avoiding wordiness and worthiness. It's personal pop music that really has something to say. Three Months, Three Weeks and Two Days could be proof of the fact that every so often there appears a classic pop album that seems to come from nowhere. This one doesn't of course (Bill's high media profile in France and Belgium disproves this theory), but you would be forgiven for thinking so".
(Nettwerk Records press release)

"Bill Pritchard's third album, produced by old school French popster Etienne Daho
, is the album that cemented his European popularity, to the point that the British-born singer/songwriter eventually settled in Paris. Sounding like the best album the Go-Betweens never made (Pritchard's voice has a startling resemblance to Robert Forster's), or a collaboration between Lloyd Cole and Prefab Sprout, Three Months, Three Weeks, & Two Days is a low-key, largely acoustic album of smart and sophisticated pop songs with winsome lyrics, pretty melodies, and memorable choruses.
(Stewart Mason, All-Music Guide)

Thanks. Love this record (and Etienne Daho). Just one point: Pritchard sound a lot more like Grant than Robert from the Go-Betweens to my ears.

Nice blog, by the way. Been coming by for a while now.

Hi Geoff,

Forster or McLennan? Personally, I would say... neither! My love for The Go-Betweens has no room for resemblances.

Having said that, I must admit that his voice has its own merits, and one fall's easily for the pop sensibility he showed for the best part of his (earlier) career. Clearly a case for review, imho...

Thanks for visiting!

Hi,

great thanks for this record, i heard it so many times : romance sans paroles, tommy and co, pillow talk, kenneth baker, great tunes
it's true that it seems like go-betweens and about the forster or Lennan voice, it's difficult for me to make the difference !!!!
do you have the record called "death of bill posters" with the two first albums ? i've got the first one on vinyl "half a million" with this fabulous "smiths" tune called
"angelique"
thanks and have a good evening
